FOOT INJURIES

Fracture

Fractures to the mid foot and toes are common. Some injuries may require the patient to see a specialist and may also need to be placed in a CAM Walker boot or use crutches while the bone heals.

Plantar Fasciitis

WOWZERS... this injury can be sore!

The plantar fascia is a strong band of tissue which can get inflamed for many reasons. Typically super sore first thing in the morning with your first few steps (more like a hobble) very difficult. Treatment may include manual therapy and taping techniques to calm the area down, followed by a strict strength program and advice for return to activity/sports.

Big Toe Pain

A super important joint  that helps with balance, walking, running and can become stiff and painful, limiting everyday movement and sports. 

Getting a clear and accurate diagnosis of the specific structures that are causing pain in this area will help direction your management plan.

Lis Franc Injury 

The Lisfranc ligament is an important stabiliser to the mid foot. Most Lisfranc injuries that occur during sports are considered low energy, with the mechanism of injury commonly reported as twist on a plantar flexed foot or direct compression through the foot.

 

Up to 20% of these injuries are missed or misdiagnosed. Early detection and management are very important for good outcomes and successful return to play and activity.

Heel pain 

Around the area of the heel is designed to be a natural cushion when we move. The fat pad can become irritated or bruised from increased activity, landing from a height or simple wearing inappropriate footwear. if this pain is lasting more than a couple of weeks, physio can help to get you back to normal. 

Pedicured Feet

Stress Fractures

Often seen in runners, dancers and high performance athletes. This can be caused by sudden spikes in training/activities. Prompt recognition and referral for imaging and specialists care is important.t Load management for stress fractures will help guide return to play or activity.
